Huami Amazfit GTS Review: Apple Watch clone with 14-day battery life https://smartwatchspace.com/huami-amazfit-gts-review https://smartwatchspace.com/huami-amazfit-gts-review#comments Sat, 26 Sep 2020 00:49:38 +0000 https://smartwatchspace.com/?p=615 Huami, the sub-brand of Chinese giant Xiaomi has become very popular from a couple of years because of its Amazfit smartwatches. Huami helps to build Xiaomi’s fitness trackers and the same legacy is seen in its smartwatches. Currently, there are nine smartwatches that Huami currently sells and the one which we are going to review here looks the most appealing among them.

Amazfit GTS Review
Amazfit GTS Review

Amazfit GTS is the latest addition in this popular smartwatch lineup and is the closest clone of Apple Watch Series 5. Although it is very reasonably priced it is not like any other cheap Chinese clone instead a very premium smartwatch with great fitness features and excellent battery life. It is more than just an Apple imitator.

Design & Display

Display of GTS Smartwatch
Rounded corners gives perfect look to Amazfit GTS

Amazfit GTS has a design similar to Apple Watch Series 4, actually, it is the best look-alike of Apple Watch. It comes with a square aluminum watch case with rounded corners with a 20mm silicone bracelet. It looks very cool and is available in six different colors to choose from. It weighs only 24.8 g without straps so it feels very comfortable on wrists throughout the day.

It has 5ATM water-resistance so it can be worn during showers, rains or swimming.

GTS boasts 1.65-inch AMOLED display which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and the 2.5D is slightly rounded on the sides. The always-on display is very crisp and sharp with a resolution of 348 x 442 pixels and 341 ppi pixel density. The display quality is slightly better than Apple Watch 4’s 326 ppi pixel density but it is a good selling point for GTS.

Software & Sensors

GTS runs on Amazfit’s own OS and doesn’t have an internal memory which refers to its limitations. You don’t get many apps and features like in Wear OS watches but it has a positive impact on battery life. There are five modules on the watch face and more than 100 different watch faces for customization.

It uses Bluetooth 5.0 for better connectivity with smartphones and GPS and GLONASS for determining position. Unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi chip and the NFC is integrated only for Chinese users. As this is a fitness-focused smartwatch, the sensory equipment for different sports modes include an optical Bio Tracker heart rate monitor, an air sensor, a 6-axis acceleration sensor, and a geomagnetic sensor.

It is compatible with Android 5.0 and above as well as iOs 10 platform and above.

Exercise & Health Monitoring

Health Monitoring Amazfit GTS
Health Monitoring in Xiaomi Amazfit GTS

Amazfit GTS comes equipped with 12 sports modes which make it interesting for athletes. These modes include a walking mode, a jogging mode (indoor & outdoor), cycling (indoor & outdoor), stepping, skiing or free training and swimming (thanks to 5ATM water-resistance). Corresponding data like distance, speed or calorie consumption are analyzed in the respective modes.

Amazfit GTS smartwatch also features sleep monitoring or motion tracking which is lacking in Apple Watch Series 4.

Health tracking is very much accurate on this as it the BioTracker PPG high-precision biological tracking sensor along with Huami’s self-developed algorithm for high-precise and continuous monitoring of heart-rate throughout the day. During exercise, it can also provide fat-burning interval, heart rate interval vibration alarm, high heart rate, and other functions.

Other functions include typical clock functions such as alarm, music control, weather display, and notifications.

Battery Life

The 220mAh battery of GTS lasts for up to 14 days on normal usage with Bluetooth, heart rate monitor and GPS and only about 24 hours with GPS permanently activated. It can go up to one and a half months without all these sensors and functions. The battery gets charged via a magnetic cable.

Price & Availability

It is already available for presale in China but worldwide availability is still not known exactly. In China, it costs 899 Yuan which is roughly $135.99.

Final Verdict

Amazfit GTS has got impressive looks and if you are looking for a cheaper Apple Watch clone with good functionality it is worth giving a try.

Except for LTE connectivity it has got all the features that are expected from a good smartwatch. Also, the long battery life is a great selling point and offers great convenience. The 5ATM water-resistance and various sports mode combined with a lightweight build make it an excellent watch for fitness freaks and athletes.

Of course, the best thing about GTS is its price, you get all the premium features under $150 with looks of a high-end smartwatch which starts from $399.

Xiaomi Mi Watch Review: A feature rich Apple Watch clone https://smartwatchspace.com/xiaomi-mi-watch-review https://smartwatchspace.com/xiaomi-mi-watch-review#respond Thu, 17 Sep 2020 06:28:16 +0000 https://smartwatchspace.com/?p=630 Xiaomi has a remarkable wearable portfolio including activity tracker like Mi Band 3 which resembles Apple Watch and Amazfit GTS which is launched by its sub brand Huami which is again ‘inspired’ by the Apple Watch.

This time Xiaomi has launched its first smartwatch under the brand name Mi called the Mi Watch. It again has the Apple Watch ‘inspired’ design with square dial and rotating crown but is actually more than that.

Of course it comes at a price half than its Apple counterpart as Xiaomi products are known for that. But unlike the cheap clones it has very nice features and is a great choice for people who want a high-end smartwatch lookalike but don’t want to compromise on quality and features.

Here we have reviewed the Mi Watch and explained its every feature in detail so it’s easy for you to decide whether it is worth a shot or not.

Design & Display

Xiaomi Mi Watch Review

Mi Watch is accused of having copied its design from Apple Watch and it is not completely wrong. If you look it from a distance you will certainly confuse it with the Apple watch because of its square casing with rounded corners and thin straps.

On the right side of the casing there is a crown for navigating through the apps, a pill shaped power button and between them a microphone is placed whereas on the left side a single speaker is placed.

Xiaomi Mi Watch body

The Mi Watch has an aluminum alloy frame and ceramic back with regular silicon straps. You can choose from silver, black, grey and blue strap colors. It is available in a premium model too with stainless steel casing, Sapphire Glass protection and stainless steel straps, which is priced a little bit more.

The 1.67-inches AMOLED always-on display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass with very narrow bezels. The display is very crisp with 326ppi pixel density.

Mi Watch is water-resistant too so you wear it while swimming.

Hardware & Software

Xiaomi Mi Watch

Mi Watch has Snapdragon 3100 chipset at heart paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage for taking care of apps and data.

It was rumored that Xiaomi could come with its own custom skin and it has done that with Mi Watch. It comes with Xiaomi’s own MIUI for Watch topped over Google’s  WearOS. The user interface is like WearOS but with different set of features.

MIUI for Watch comes with built-in Xiaomi voice assistant and is optimized for better battery life. It allows users to customize their own watch faces, along with a separate store for downloading different watch faces and users can also download various apps from its own app store.

Mi Watch comes with over 40 pre installed apps including lighter versions of popular MIUI apps like Recorder, Notes, Tasks, Mi Home and more.

However the global variant will run on stock WearOS and might use Google Assistant over Xiaomi voice assistant as it is more versatile.

The smartwatch supports dual-SIM cellular 4G connectivity via eSIM, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity as well as NFC support.

As the software is designed to save power, the 570mAh battery of Mi Watch could last up to 36 hours over a single charge.

Health & Fitness Tracking

A premium fitness Tracking

Mi Watch is not like a cheap Apple Watch clone but a proper smartwatch with great fitness tracking features. It uses in-built GPS and a heart rate sensor to track various health and fitness metrics. It also includes a blood oxygen sensor for displaying VO2 max ratings and native sleep tracking which is still not available in Apple Watches.

It features set of various health functions including something called ‘body energy tracking’, exercise tracking, steps and calorie tracking, heart rate tracking. So basically it has got the basics covered along with some extras. Mi Watch features 10 sports modes which include swimming, walking, running, climbing, cycling and more.

The next algorithm Mi Watch gets is Firstbeat. It tracks exercise speed and heart rate at multiple points during a training session so you can easily track changes in fitness levels.

Price & Availability

The best thing about Xiaomi products are their price tags and Mi Watch is no exception. This smartwatch comes at half the price of an entry-level Apple Watch Series 5.

The basic watch with silicone straps is priced CNY 1,299 ($185) and the premium version with stainless steel case and metal strap comes with a price tag of CNY 1,999 ($290).

Initially Mi Watch will be available on sale only in China but it will launch in other countries in few months. The basic version will be available from November 11th and the premium one will come later in the year.

Final Verdict

Although Mi Watch is the costliest Apple Watch look alike but still lot more cheaper than it, and the price seems reasonable considering the quality and features it offers.

It lacks some features like ECG functionality but features like blood oxygen tracking compensate for it considering the price tag.

Xiaomi has worked very much on the looks of Mi Watch and the result is this elegant looking square dialed smartwatch. Overall, you cannot get any better Apple Watch lookalike currently in market with features like Xiaomi’s Mi Watch.

Huawei Watch GT 2 leaked with bigger battery & slimmer bezels https://smartwatchspace.com/huawei-watch-gt-2-leaked-with-bigger-battery-slimmer-bezels https://smartwatchspace.com/huawei-watch-gt-2-leaked-with-bigger-battery-slimmer-bezels#respond Thu, 17 Sep 2020 00:24:59 +0000 https://smartwatchspace.com/?p=214 Last year in October Huawei launched Watch GT alongside Mate 20 series with its own Lite OS. Now according to latest press leaks Huawei is planning to launch Watch GT 2 most likely on September 19 at the Mate 30 event. Most probably it will launch on September 19 and if not we can see it at IFA 2019 which is mere days away. So, the question that comes in our minds is what are the upgrades?

Huawei Watch GT2 Leaks

The official press renders reveals some minor but solid improvements over Watch GT. Watch GT 2 will come in two variants, an all black model with sporty band and a classic variant with tan leather straps and black-silver dial. It has slightly larger display and thinner bezels as compared to its predecessor with no remarkable change in design. Watch GT has 420mAh battery which lasts for almost 2 weeks and Watch GT 2 offers a boost in battery section with its 445mAh battery.

The next big upgrade is in-built mic and speaker which were missing from Watch GT and it means you can pick and make calls directly and it also points towards the involvement of cellular connectivity. It will also have integrated GPS and optical heart rate sensor just like the previous watch for sports and health tracking. It is likely that Watch GT 2 will also ditch Google Wear OS and will run on an updated version of LiteOS.
