Huami, the sub-brand of Chinese giant Xiaomi has become very popular from a couple of years because of its Amazfit smartwatches. Huami helps to build Xiaomi’s fitness trackers and the same legacy is seen in its smartwatches. Currently, there are nine smartwatches that Huami currently sells and the one which we are going to review here looks the most appealing among them.
Amazfit GTS is the latest addition in this popular smartwatch lineup and is the closest clone of Apple Watch Series 5. Although it is very reasonably priced it is not like any other cheap Chinese clone instead a very premium smartwatch with great fitness features and excellent battery life. It is more than just an Apple imitator.

Design & Display
Amazfit GTS has a design similar to Apple Watch Series 4, actually, it is the best look-alike of Apple Watch. It comes with a square aluminum watch case with rounded corners with a 20mm silicone bracelet. It looks very cool and is available in six different colors to choose from. It weighs only 24.8 g without straps so it feels very comfortable on wrists throughout the day.
GTS boasts 1.65-inch AMOLED display which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and the 2.5D is slightly rounded on the sides. The always-on display is very crisp and sharp with a resolution of 348 x 442 pixels and 341 ppi pixel density. The display quality is slightly better than Apple Watch 4’s 326 ppi pixel density but it is a good selling point for GTS.
Software & Sensors
GTS runs on Amazfit’s own OS and doesn’t have an internal memory which refers to its limitations. You don’t get many apps and features like in Wear OS watches but it has a positive impact on battery life. There are five modules on the watch face and more than 100 different watch faces for customization.
It uses Bluetooth 5.0 for better connectivity with smartphones and GPS and GLONASS for determining position. Unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi chip and the NFC is integrated only for Chinese users. As this is a fitness-focused smartwatch, the sensory equipment for different sports modes include an optical Bio Tracker heart rate monitor, an air sensor, a 6-axis acceleration sensor, and a geomagnetic sensor.
It is compatible with Android 5.0 and above as well as iOs 10 platform and above.
Exercise & Health Monitoring
Amazfit GTS comes equipped with 12 sports modes which make it interesting for athletes. These modes include a walking mode, a jogging mode (indoor & outdoor), cycling (indoor & outdoor), stepping, skiing or free training and swimming (thanks to 5ATM water-resistance). Corresponding data like distance, speed or calorie consumption are analyzed in the respective modes.
Health tracking is very much accurate on this as it the BioTracker PPG high-precision biological tracking sensor along with Huami’s self-developed algorithm for high-precise and continuous monitoring of heart-rate throughout the day. During exercise, it can also provide fat-burning interval, heart rate interval vibration alarm, high heart rate, and other functions.
Other functions include typical clock functions such as alarm, music control, weather display, and notifications.
Battery Life
The 220mAh battery of GTS lasts for up to 14 days on normal usage with Bluetooth, heart rate monitor and GPS and only about 24 hours with GPS permanently activated. It can go up to one and a half months without all these sensors and functions. The battery gets charged via a magnetic cable.

It is already available for presale in China but worldwide availability is still not known exactly. In China, it costs 899 Yuan which is roughly $135.99.
Final Verdict
Amazfit GTS has got impressive looks and if you are looking for a cheaper Apple Watch clone with good functionality it is worth giving a try.
Of course, the best thing about GTS is its price, you get all the premium features under $150 with looks of a high-end smartwatch which starts from $399.

I am after a smartwatch that will look after me. I am disabled ans have some usual amalgamation of illnesses that I have after an operation that went wrong.
I would like a watch that that tells the time, ECG, BMP, HR, SpO2 and Blood Pressure. I do not need all the refineries of the sporting activities as I am in an electric wheelchair when out of my home, which I have been house bound since – forever as I cannot even go out even into my garden.
Sorry about that. Can you suggest several smartwatches that will suit my criteria please?
